Once upon a time in college I started off the semester by getting ahead in every single class I took. Being a psychology major this mostly meant that I had read and summarized everything I needed to and found the designated number of articles to read on the weekly topics. This gave me ample amount of time to work on the bigger, semester long research papers that always seemed to be due in the same week as one another. My thinking was that giving myself this large bubble of time would help me write better papers. Was this the case?
Hahaha! No.
Having ample time led me to over estimate how much time I actually had for my papers and I still ended up typing into the wee hours of the morning on almost all my papers.
This is what has happened with this Studio Ghibli Swap project. Ugh.
I choose a very ambitious (for me) design and forgot to factor life and work into my mental timeline. Monday I realized I was never going to make my original pattern and still meet deadline (or the end of March really) so I had to give that up and make a new plan. After a few moments of panic I sat down to plan out what I could do in time that would still line up with my original idea.
Now with 20 days left until I have to ship off the project, and another week of traveling for work in between, I have a plan that will meet the deadline and still be as awesome as I wanted it to be! All my best work in college was done in a half panic caffeinated state, why not my crafty work as well?
The plan is this:
1) Still going with flying geese and an appliqué Totoro, just not wonky. I am using my awesome new Flying Geese x4 No Math Ruler by Lazy Girl Designs that I picked up at Quilt Con and am already ironing out the wings on the last pieces. This should piece together in no time at all and then I'll machine appliqué the Totoro in place.
2) PomPom soot sprites a go! Still a go! Picking up the supplies this weekend
3) Appliqué embroidery hoops: probably not going to happen.
4) Goodies for my swap partner: working on it and on schedule!
So I'm feeling confident that I will be able to make both an awesome project and the deadline for this swap! I've already made big progress the last few days and I have more sewing time ahead of me. Time to put on some Netflix and bust through these flying geese!
